THE PREDICTION

Former world number 12 Borna Coric has endured an inordinate amount of injuries in recent years to keep him from fully realising his potential. The 27-year-old came back from a year-long absence to enjoy a strong 2022, culminating in victory at the Cincinnati Masters, but he ended 2023 early after injury at the US Open last summer to need another fight back up the rankings. Coric finished runner-up to Alexander Bublik at the Montpellier Open this time last month to suggest he was ready to move back inside the top 30 but he has failed to win a match since, with a three-set exit to rising star Jakub Mensik last time out in Dubai. World number 38 Sebastian Ofner ended 2023 in the form of his career, building on a brilliant run to the last 16 at Roland-Garros with some surprisingly strong results on the hardcourt swing. A run to the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Open in January said more success was on the way but the Austrian has lost six of his last eight matches since to look the underdog in this first encounter with Coric. Back the Croat, who is certainly top 20 quality at his best, to win outright.

TIP: BORNA CORIC TO WIN
