Marie Bouzkova vs Kimberly Birrell prediction

Marie Bouzkova was part of the victorious Czech Republic team that won the Billie Jean King Cup last week. She won her singles match in the quarter-finals against Sonay Kartal of Great Britain. She reached the third-round of the US Open, losing a closely fought encounter to Iga Swiatek. Bouzkova has won two tour-level titles in Bogota and Nottingham this season, and she climbed to a career high of 21 in the rankings earlier in the year.

She received a bye in round one and now faces Kimberly Birrell. The Australian extended her winning run to six matches after a crushing win over Aoi Ito. Birrell did not concede a break point on her way to a 6-1 6-1 victory. She picked up her maiden tour-level title at the Korea Open last week, and will break into the top 40 of the rankings for the first time after this event. 

Birrell also leads the head-to-head 1-0 after coming from a set down to win last year in the qualifying rounds of the Pan Pacific Open. This is a tough opener for Bouzkova, particularly given the level Birrell has been playing in recent weeks.
