Former world number one Simona Halep dominated proceedings against Amanda Anisimova on Thursday, conceding just three games to the sixth seed. The 30-year-old reached the same stage of last week’s Birmingham Classic before defeat to in-form Beatriz Haddad-Maia but she has looked more assured in Germany ahead of a first return to Wimbledon since winning in 2019. Former world number four Bianca Andreescu looks like she is finding her feet on this surface, though, after upsetting the Bad Homburg Open top seed Daria Kasatkina. The Canadian is yet to drop a set this week but Halep won their only previous meeting at the WTA Finals in three sets back in 2019 and she is the more comfortable of the two on this surface at this moment in time. Andreescu rarely goes down without a fight, though, so backing this match to see three sets could be a suitable alternative to picking a tough winner. The suitably cautious option is backing Halep to win at least one.
