World number 61 Beatriz Haddad-Maia continued her solid form with a straight-sets victory over Sofia Kenin on Wednesday. The 25-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Monterrey Open last week before losing to eventual champion Leylah Fernandez.
CLARA TAUSON
World number 40 Clara Tauson just snuck into the Indian Wells seedings for her main draw debut in California. The 19-year-old future star already has two WTA tour titles to her name after winning the Lyon Open and Luxembourg Open last season.
THE PREDICTION
Danish prospect Clara Tauson set a career-high WTA world ranking of 33rd early last month and she should be breaking the top 30 sooner rather than later on her current trajectory. The teenager is the lesser-known member of the triumvirate of 19-year-old women set to usher in the generation on the WTA tour alongside Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez, who have already had their names up in lights. Beatriz Haddad-Maia is a fighter in some excellent form right now and three sets seems likely here but Tauson’s recent wins over Belinda Bencic and Anett Kontaveit put her at a working level high enough to be backed to win through outright.
