THE PREDICTION
Top seed Arthur Fils came back from a set down to beat his compatriot Luca Van Assche in four on Friday. The 19-year-old brought a career-high ATP world ranking of 36th into Jeddah, with Van Assche his closest rival at 70th, to look the overwhelming favourite for the title at the Next Gen ATP Finals but Hamad Medjedovic should prove to be his toughest challenger yet. The 20-year-old was in control of his semi-final match with Dominic Stricker before the Swiss was forced to retire injured in the second set on Friday and that sees him through to the final with a 4-0 record to Fils’ 3-1. A gruelling five-set victory over Alex Michelsen, seeing four tiebreaks, set the tone for Medjedovic’s week but this first meeting with Fils has him at a disadvantage in a first ever tour final. Fils is the only player with a title to his name here after victory at the Lyon Open in May but he has impressed indoors all season, recently finishing runner-up to Alexander Bublik at the European Open to bring some serious experience into this final. Back the Frenchman to win a match that could well go the distance.
