Top seed Arthur Fils is already through to the semi-finals of the Next Gen ATP Finals with two wins from two matches against Flavio Cobolli and Luca Nardi. The 19-year-old looked the clear favourite to win the event at the start of the week, significantly higher ranked than the rest of the field at a career-high ATP world ranking of 36th, but world number 94 Dominic Stricker looked his closest rival and the Swiss beat Fils in straight sets in Basel last month in their only tour-level meeting so far. 21-year-old Stricker needs to win this match to have any chance of qualification after a shock opening defeat to Flavio Cobolli but Fils brings the better recent form into the equation after recently finishing runner-up to Alexander Bublik at the European Open. Motivation may be the key factor here, though, so back Stricker to earn at least two sets in a must-win clash.
