THE PREDICTION

It remains to be seen if 2024 will prove a tough sophomore season for 19-year-old Arthur Fils but his three-set exit to Cristian Garin in Estoril this week suggests he is still far from his bullish best. The Frenchman won the Lyon Open on clay last May to prove his credentials on clay but he has struggled for form ever since a shock defeat to Hamad Medjedovic at the Next Gen ATP Finals late last season, bringing a 2-3 record on clay into Monte-Carlo. World number 20 Adrian Mannarino enjoyed the best season of his long career last year, winning three ATP 250 titles in Newport, Astana and Sofia before a brilliant start in January saw him reach the round of 16 at the Australian Open. Two wins since Melbourne suggests the 35-year-old is drifting away from that impressive peak and he may drift further still with very little to shout about in his clay results over the years. Back Fils to win here to, hopefully, help build some confidence.

TIP: ARTHUR FILS TO WIN
