World number 53 Alison Riske conceded just three games to Caty McNally on Wednesday. The 31-year-old won the third WTA title of her career late last season at the Linz Open and she finished runner-up to Amanda Anisimova in Adelaide at the start of this season.
GARBINE MUGURUZA
World number nine Garbine Muguruza finished the season in searing form to win the WTA Finals for a second time. The 28-year-old owns 10 WTA titles, including two Grand Slams from Roland-Garros in 2016 and Wimbledon a year later as well as two Masters titles from Beijing and Cincinnati
THE PREDICTION
Former world number one Garbine Muguruza has so far struggled to find the intensity on court that saw her blast past almost everyone at the WTA Finals last November. She lost to in-form Jelena Ostapenko last time out in the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open and she faces another player in form next. Former world number 18 Alison Riske has won the last two meetings between these two to level their head-to-head record at 2-2, although their last match came at the 2019 US Open. In normal service Muguruza would be the favourite to come through in straight sets but at this moment in time it seems the shrewd move to back Alison Riske to win at least a set. The compromise call is for Muguruza to take this outright but best leave this match out of an accumulator.
