World number three Stefanos Tsitsipas came through a thrilling match with Sebastian Korda in the second round of the Cincinnati Open on Wednesday to put his semi-final defeat at the Canada Masters behind him. The 23-year-old was shocked by a vastly impressive performance by Reilly Opelka last week at the Canada Masters and he has been slightly more fallible since losing the Roland-Garros final from two sets up to Novak Djokovic. He faces world number 27 Lorenzo Sonego next after the 26-year-old battled through two tough matches to beat Carlos Alcaraz and Tommy Paul in straight sets. Sonego enjoyed a strong grass season this summer but had since been struggling on tour until this week.
Sonego has been impressive in parts this season but a straight-sets defeat to Tsitsipas at this stage of the Miami Open is likely to be emulated here in Cincinnati. Tsitsipas should be targeting the final this week after falling just short in Toronto last week and he should be able to blast through this second meeting in straight sets once again.
