THE PREDICTION

World number 27 Reilly Opelka has struggled to make an impact at tournaments since his round of 16 exit at the US Open back in September. The 24-year-old reached a first Masters final in August in what has been by far his best season on tour, beating the likes of Nick Kyrgios, Grigor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas before losing to Daniil Medvedev in the final. Another man who has beaten Tsitsipas out of the blue this year is Filip Krajnovic, with the Serb doing so on his way to the Hamburg Open final before losing to Pablo Carreno Busta. The world number 42 as of Monday is at his best on the clay but a strong Australian Open campaign earlier this season and a run to the 2017 final here shows his potential in Paris.

Opelka’s game should suit the conditions indoors here and with both players coming in on three-match losing streaks taking it feel like the big-serving American has enough of an advantage to come through the winner of this first meeting.
