THE LOWDOWN
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Last meeting: Alexander Zverev beat Cameron Norrie 7-6, 6-3
CAMERON NORRIE
- 23-year-old Cameron Norrie came back from a set down against Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in the first round to set up a tough match with Alexander Zverev.
- The Brit recently reached the semi-finals of the Atlanta Open before losing out to in-form American Taylor Fritz and has an 18-18 record for 2019.
- Norrie has played the German number one once before professionally, losing on a hard court at the Mexican Open back in February in straight sets.
ALEXANDER ZVEREV
- Alexander Zverev reached the semi-finals of the Hamburg Open in his native Germany two weeks ago, losing to Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili.
- World number seven Alexander Zverev will be glad to be back on his favoured hard courts after a woeful grass-court season where he exited Wimbledon in the first round.
- 23-year-old Zverev won this tournament back in 2017, beating Roger Federer in the final, and reached the quarter-finals last year before Stefanos Tsitsipas knocked him out.
THE PREDICTION
Alexander Zverev won the ATP Finals last year on a hard court, and indeed this event in 2017, to leave no doubt that this is his favoured surface. The German will want to end this season on a high having dropped two places in the ATP rankings to seven, and he will have his sights set on the incoming US Open. Cameron Norrie has an excellent work ethic but saving a meltdown on Zverev’s side of the court, he should be defeated in straight sets here.
