World number 18 Hossein Vafaei was a late addition to the 2023 Masters field but the Iranian debutant showed no signs of being overawed by the occasion as he produced an excellent display to see off three-time Masters champion Mark Selby in the opening round. He faces an opponent in Jack Lisowski who overcame a legend of his own in John Higgins and both players will see this as an excellent opportunity to reach the semi-final. Lisowski has already achieved that feat in a Triple Crown event when he reached the last four of last year’s UK Championship, and the Englishman is fancied to edge what promises to be a close game.
