THE TEAM NEWS
TONGA INVITATIONAL XIII
- The Tongan Invitational XIII produced a superb display as they
defeated Great Britain last week and will look to build on that as they
face the difficult task of facing the might of Australia.
- Aga Hingano was a late withdrawal last week with Brisbane
youngster Tesi Niu doing a brilliant job as his deputy when lining up at
fullback but Hingano is fit for this contest and will start at
halfback.
- Hopoate will revert to the fullback position whilst Konrad Hurrell retains his place after he was also a late inclusion last week whilst the Tongans have plenty of options among their extended bench with Joe Ofahengaue and Tevita Pangai Jnr. hoping to come into the side.
AUSTRALIA
- Australia put in a classy performance as they proved too good
for New Zealand last week and will be difficult to beat once again as
they head to Auckland to face a Tongan side that also picked up an
impressive victory in their last game.
- The Australians added Clint Gutherson and Victory Radley to
their squad at the start of the week but neither are expected to play
unless injuries strike with the Kangaroos making just one change from
last week’s 17.
- Cameron Murray will make his debut for the Kangaroos from the bench having replaced Ben Hunt which will see the Australians go without a utility man on the bench although Wade Graham is capable of playing several positions.
THE PREDICTION
Australia remain the side to beat on the international stage but the Tongan Invitational XIII will fancy their chances of at least pushing them close following their impressive victory last week. The Tongans beat Great Britain with a dominant display in which they allowed the Lions to have little field position. They will have to defend well again against the Kanargoos but their lack of quality in the halves could prove to be the difference with the Australians able to come out on top.
