On the global stage, New Zealand are yet to make a significant mark but they will be encouraged by a decent performance, albeit a 2-1 loss, against Canada the other day. Colombia also lost their opener to hosts France but there is far more to the story than that.

NEW ZEALAND PREVIEW: TRYING TO IMPROVE
Under the management of Michael Mayne, New Zealand have found life against most teams outside of Oceania in international football to be very difficult. However, they showed some real signs of fight against Canada in their opening match.
Mackenzie Barry opened the scoring after 13 minutes before Canada, the reigning champions of this event, equalised deep into first-half stoppage-time. Evelyne Viens then notched a winning goal late on in the game for the Canadians.
COLOMBIA PREVIEW: IMPROVING AGAINST THE ODDS
Interim coach Angelo Marsiglia remains in charge of the Colombians at this summer’s Olympics in Paris and things seemed like they may be taking a turn for the worse as they found themselves 3-0 down to hosts France at half-time.
However, they rallied well in the second-half with goals from Catalina Usme and Manuela Pavi bringing them back into it at 3-2 and they missed some major chances before the game fizzled out with Mayra Ramirez receiving a straight red card as a result of a VAR check.
NEW ZEALAND VS COLOMBIA PREDICTION
New Zealand, and there is a link between the men’s and the women’s game, are beginning to become more stubborn and difficult to play against on the global stage but this is once again a tough match. Even with Canada ranked much higher than the Colombians, Colombia are generally improving and showed real signs of quality in their eventual defence to France so backing the Colombians would seem a good bet for this one.
