It is advantage New Zealand after Game 1 of the 2026 Constellation Cup, with the Silver Ferns overcoming their trans-Tasman rivals Australia 56-50.
A late flurry of points from Australia made the scoreline somewhat more respectable, but ultimately they were second best to the Commonwealth Games Gold Medal winners, and it is clear that the Diamonds are still suffering a hangover from their own early exit in Glasgow two months ago.
Grace Nweke was particularly prolific for New Zealand during Game 1 in Auckland, converting 40 of her 41 attempts, and the Aussies simply had no answer to that.
Given the contrasting morale in both camps, we’re firmly leaning towards the Silver Ferns to take Game 2 in Christchurch. The Aussies may have some more joy in games 3 and 4 on home turf, but for now, New Zealand look a superior outfit.
