Matteo Berrettini vs Christopher O’Connell Prediction

Matteo Berrettini is the 28th seed at Indian Wells and the Italian will be delighted to have made his way up sufficiently in the world rankings to be seeded for a tournament like this.

That earned him a bye in the first round and he will be eager to pick up yet more ranking points this week. He put in some excellent performances in Doha and Dubai in the last couple of weeks, having reached the quarter-finals in both tournaments.

He now meets one of the players he beat in Dubai in Christopher O’Connell. Berrettini met the Australian in the round of 16 there and ran out 7-6 6-2 winner.

O’Connell came through a three-set battle in the first round against Roberto Carballes Baena on Wednesday. He too has been in reasonable form in recent weeks and the 30-year-old can take plenty of confidence from how he has been playing.

However, it is the Italian who has been playing at the high level and he will fancy his chances of going far at Indian Wells. We expect Berrettini to get the win in straight sets.
