Learner Tien vs Tomas Machac Prediction
Learner Tien has come through four matches to reach the quarter-finals but his biggest win, and unquestionably the biggest of his relatively young career, came in the round of 16 when he beat top seed and world number two Alexander Zverev in straight sets.
Tien has been excellent all week as he has beaten some experienced players like Cam Norrie but the win over Zverev was particularly impressive by the 19-year-old.
He now comes up against Tomas Machac who is the eighth seed in Acapulco. Machac had a tough test against compatriot Jakub Mensik in the first round and then beat German Daniel Altmaier in straight sets on Wednesday.
He has yet to meet the left-handed Tien but there will be no hint of complacency after the Zverev shock. Machac comes in as favourite but Tien is being somewhat underestimated once again. We have already seen 18-year-old Joao Fonseca win a title in Buenos Aires and there is every chance that Tien picks one up this year too.
We marginally favour Tien based on the value offered and he has to be worth a small flutter here.
