Jiri Lehecka was able to outlast Arthur Fritz and post two successive wins at a Masters tournament for the first time this season. Fils was making his return from two months out in Toronto and started strongly, but Lehecka found his rhythm to win 3-6 6-3 6-4. Lehecka now faces Taylor Fritz in the round-of-16.

Fritz produced a fine display to beat Gabriel Diallo in straight sets in his third-round match. The American number one was not broken on serve and conceded just one break point in total as he wrapped up a 6-4 6-2 win over the Canadian. Diallo was sloppy during much of the contest with errors leaking from both sides, but Fritz capitalised to great effect.

Fritz leads the head-to-head 3-0 and 2-0 on hard court. Their last encounter took place in Cincinnati, with the former US Open finalist coming through in straight sets. Fritz possesses the stronger serve and has the ability to overpower Lehecka with his groundstrokes, primarily from his forehand side. He will be a huge favourite to register a fourth victory against Lehecka.
