India vs South Africa prediction

India and South Africa each took major scalps in the semi-finals to make it here, India beating reigning champions Australia and South Africa defeating 2017 winners England. Both games will be remembered for a memorable individual innings. For India, Jemimah Rodrigues’ brilliant 127 not out in a record Women’s Cricket World Cup run chase of 339 whilst for the Proteas, Laura Wolvaardt’s incredible 169 from 143 balls which catapulted her side to a winning score of 319.

When these two nations met in the group stage, South Africa were winners by three wickets and although that means little heading into the final with both teams losing to their respective semi-final opponents in the group stage, a similarly close contest between the pair may well be on the cards when considering the pressure-cooker of a final and how well matched they are.

The stakes have never been higher for the players involved with the hopes and dreams of a nation on each individual’s shoulders. It will likely come down to which side can handle the environment better and execute their skills more effectively. Obviously, the batting and bowling is critical, but do not underestimate the importance of good fielding and taking catches. Australia are out due to their dropped catches against India, which allowed Rodrigues to go on and play the match-winning innings that she did in the last four.

Both India and South Africa boast depth, a well-rounded bowling unit and individuals capable of special moments. But in a big final such as this, the home advantage and the power of a huge crowd being right behind these Indian players can’t be understated. They played a huge role in India’s semi-final run chase, putting pressure on the opposition and willing their nation home.

It just feels set up for India to win it all in front of their own people, thus becoming World Champions for the first time ever and changing the face of women’s cricket not just in India, but around the world forever.
