  • This is Atalanta’s fifth UEFA competition quarter-final. Their only success in the previous four was in the 1987/88 Cup Winners’ Cup when they won 3-1 on aggregate against Sporting CP.
  • Atalanta are unbeaten in their previous nine Europa League matches this season (W6 D3).
  • Atalanta’s current nine-match unbeaten run in UEFA competition matches is their longest unbeaten sequence in their European competition history.
  • Including qualifying, Atalanta have lost only one of their last 22 Europa League matches (W13 D8).
  • Including qualifying, Atalanta have lost only one of their previous 19 UEFA Cup/Europa League matches at home (W11 D7).
  • Atalanta have won the away first leg of a European tie on two previous occasions and went on to progress in both, against Fenerbahçe in the 1990/91 UEFA Cup second round (1-0 a, 4-1) and Hapoel Haifa 4-1 in the 2018/19 Europa League third qualifying round (4-1 a, 2-0 h).
  • Gianluca Scamacca has scored five goals in his last four appearances in the UEFA Europa League.
  • This is Liverpool’s eighth UEFA Cup/Europa League quarter-final appearance – more than any other English club (Tottenham are next with seven). They have won five of their previous seven quarter-finals.
  • Overall, this is Liverpool’s 27th UEFA competition quarter-final. They have won eight of their last ten UEFA competition quarter-final ties.
  • Liverpool have only ever lost a home first leg in UEFA club competition on two previous occasions and were eliminated both times, most recently in last season’s Champions League round of 16 against Real Madrid (2-5 h, 0-1 a). They also lost to Chelsea in the 2008/09 Champions League quarter-finals (1-3 h, 4-4 a).
  • Liverpool have not lost the second leg of a UEFA competition quarter-final tie since the 2002/03 UEFA Cup quarter-finals against Celtic (L 2-0 h). Their record since then is W6 D4.
  • Liverpool’s only previous away UEFA competition match against Atalanta was a 5-0 victory in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League group stage.

It was a famous night for Atalanta at Anfield last week in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie as a brace from Gianluca Scamacca and a goal from Mario Pasalic gave the Bergamasci a 3-0 victory over Liverpool. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have begun to stutter domestically but they come into this one on the back of a comfortable defeat of Hellas Verona the other day. Liverpool, on the other hand, saw their season continue to unravel as they suffered a shock 1-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace. The Reds were in the hunt for two more trophies this season but now appear likely to have to settle for just an EFL Cup. Liverpool will still likely make this an entertaining encounter as it is expected to be a gung-ho performance from the visitors.
