THE LOWDOWN

GRANADA

In their first season back in the top-flight after promotion with Paco Lopez last season, Granada have endured a really difficult campaign and are heading straight back down to the second-tier. The Andalusians have managed just two victories in their 30 matches so far this season as they begin the weekend sitting 14 points adrift with 24 points to play for.

They come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 loss to Valencia about ten days ago with Andre Almeida scoring a 77th minute winning goal at Los Carmenes. That means Granada have now suffered five successive defeats and they are winless in their last 11 La Liga matches under the management of Jose Ramon Sandoval.

ALAVES

Following promotion last season, Deportivo Alaves have enjoyed a relatively impressive campaign. The Basque club sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table but there were heavy rumours that Alaves would sack their manager Luis Garcia Plaza during the January transfer window before a mini and much-needed spurt of form.

They have returned to some underwhelming and inadequate form of late, though, with three defeats in their last four matches in La Liga. Their last two losses have come against Basque rivals Real Sociedad and Athletic Club. They have scored just 26 goals in their 30 games so far this season with a very defensive and reactive side.

THE TEAM NEWS

GRANADA

Granada come into this weekend’s visit of Alaves with only one injury concern as Oscar Melendo is a doubt but Granada could be unchanged for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Batalla; Mendez, Angel, Miquel, Neva; Pellistri, Ruiz, Gerard Gumbau, Corbeanu; Boye, Uzuni

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Melendo (Injured)

ALAVES

There is only one major injury concern for Alaves this weekend as defender Aleksandar Sedlar remains unavailable with his ACL injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Sivera; Gorosabel, Abqar, Marin, Lopez; Blanco, Guevara; Vicente, Guridi, Rioja; Samu

UNAVAILABLE: Sedlar (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

This is not expected to be a thriller for the neutral. Granada have been one of the very weakest sides in the country and, naturally, they are a team that have struggled for goals throughout the campaign with 30 goals scored in 30 matches. Alaves have notched just 26 times in their 30 matches and only three teams have scored fewer than the Basque side. As a result of those respective records, under 2.5 goals does seem very likely for this one.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
