THE LOWDOWN
CELTA VIGO
After a season in which they fought against relegation for much of the campaign and narrowly avoided the drop with a win over champions Barcelona on the final day of the season, Celta thought things would be different this year following the appointment of Rafa Benitez. However, the surprise sale of Gabri Veiga has led a general bad mood around the club.
The Galicians begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places after eight matches of the 2023/24 La Liga campaign. Their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago before the October international break, was a 2-2 draw at home to ten-man Getafe with Benitez coming under a lot of pressure.
ATLETICO MADRID
Diego Simeone looked set to be on his way, finally, from Atletico Madrid but Los Rojiblancos’ form massively turned around after the break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Combined with the Clasico rivals, Barcelona and Real Madrid, having a few issues of their own as well as a quiet but strong transfer window for Atletico, they went into this season expecting another special campaign.
It has, indeed, been a special and impressive start so far. In their opening eight games of this season, Atletico have suffered just one defeat and shared just one draw. Their impressive 2-1 win at home to another strong side in Real Sociedad before the international break means they are now on a four-match winning streak in La Liga.

THE PREDICTION
Celta Vigo are struggling quite badly so far this season but their performances have definitely been better than their results. The standard of opposition is getting no easier, though, as the new look, energised Atletico Madrid travel to the north east. Rafa Benitez will likely, as is his want, set his side up in a typically defensive fashion to limit the opposition. Given that, despite their more adventurous style in recent times, Diego Simeone will not be averse to a scrap. A low-scoring, fairly dramatic encounter should be in store at Balaidos.
TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – ATLETICO MADRID TO WIN OR DRAW & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
