THE LOWDOWN

ATLETICO MADRID

After some improvement in their form and performances in the second-half of last season, Diego Simeone remained in charge of Atletico Madrid and Los Rojiblancos are expected to challenge for the Spanish title this season. In their opening 12 matches of the campaign, they have collected 28 points and also been much-improved in the UEFA Champions League.

They come into this on the back of a comfortable 3-1 defeat of struggling Villarreal in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago, before the November international break. That win followed on from a 6-0 annihilation of Celtic in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. They have scored 41 goals in their 16 matches across all competitions so far this season.

REAL MALLORCA

Javier Aguirre is under a bit of pressure as Mallorca boss with the Balearic Islanders hovering just above the bottom three and the relegation places. They spent a fair bit in the summer and were expected to build on a mid-table finish but they have managed just one win in their opening 12 matches of this season.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat away to Real Betis before the break. That means their only victory in their last eight matches across all competitions came against lower league Boiro in the first round of the Copa del Rey at the start of this month. They have scored just 12 goals in their 12 matches so far.

THE TEAM NEWS

ATLETICO MADRID

Atletico Madrid have a few injury concerns ahead of the visit of Mallorca with the likes of Memphis Depay and Thomas Lemar among those unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Oblak; Witsel, Gimenez, Hermoso; Molina, De Paul, Koke, Saul, Riquelme; Griezmann, Morata

UNAVAILABLE: Depay (Injured), Lemar (Injured), Vitolo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Reinildo (Injured), Riquelme (Injured)

REAL MALLORCA

Real Mallorca have a major absence as they head to the capital with their big Kosovan striker, Vedat Muriqi, unavailable due to an injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Rajkovic; Gonzalez, Valjent, Raillo, Nastasic, J.Costa; Sanchez, Mascarell, S.Costa; Larin, Abdon

UNAVAILABLE: Muriqi (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

This is one of the more lobsided matches on the Spanish top-flight slate this weekend and even perhaps anywhere in Europe. Backing Atletico to do anything comfortably is a bit of a risk but Los Rojiblancos have been exceptional really and especially going forward. They have fewer things to worry about at the back for this one, too, with Vedat Muriqi out injured for Mallorca so a comfortable Atletico win, likely to nil, is to be expected at the Metropolitano.

BETTING TIP: ATLETICO MADRID TO WIN TO NIL
