THE LOWDOWN

SASSUOLO

A few seasons ago, after gaining promotion to the top-flight with Empoli, Alessio Dionisi replaced Roberto De Zerbi as Sassuolo manager. Living up to De Zerbi was always going to prove difficult, especially when losing certain key players, but it has to be said that he has generally underperformed in his role so far.

They looked as though they may have turned a corner and become a genuinely serious outfit last month with back-to-back victories against Internazionale and Juventus. However, since those wins, Sassuolo have collected just one point from a game at home to struggling Monza and then a trip to Lecce.

LAZIO

Following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri a few years ago, things have remained fractious with Lazio throughout his tenure, despite being rather impressive on the pitch. The capital city club finished as runners’ up last season but the sale of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al Hilal has led Sarri to be fairly frustrated in press conferences.

It has been a very difficult start to the campaign this time around. They have picked up four points from two UEFA Champions League group stage matches but all four of those points came from last gasp, dramatic goals. In the league, they have suffered just one defeat in four but remain firmly in the bottom-half of the table.

LAZIO

Lazio have no fresh injury or suspension concerns for this weekend but could be missing their goalkeeper, Ivan Provedel, who was injured before the break.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Casale, Romagnoli, Hysaj; Guendouzi, Rovella, Luis Alberto; Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Provedel (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Sassuolo’s habit of making life difficult for the so-called stronger sides in Italian football is something that is born out of a proactive mindset. The hosts will seek to exploit the space left behind by the strongest teams and Lazio will fall into that category. Lazio themselves have plenty of attacking options, playing their own attacking style under Sarri. Given that, this Saturday evening clash could well be quite an entertaining one for the neutral to keep an eye on.
