THE LOWDOWN

ROMA

The third season of a Jose Mourinho side tends to be when everything implodes around him but, this time, it appears that the Romans have managed to steady the ship after that pattern had appeared to be being followed in the opening months of the campaign. They remain in the underwhelming seventh spot but have definitely improved as the season has gone on.

They come into this one on the back of a goalless draw with Lazio in the Derby della Capitale in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago. The home team have now suffered just one defeat in their last six matches in Serie A and that came against league leading Internazionale at San Siro in October.

UDINESE

After winning just five of their final 30 games last season and then failing to win any of their opening ten matches this year, Andrea Sottil was sacked as manager of Udinese and replaced by Gabriele Cioffi. The former Crawley Town boss sparked an immediate improvement, despite difficult opponents, collecting four points from matches against AC Milan and Atalanta.

The Friulians went into the November international break sitting a couple of points and places outside of the bottom three and the relegation places. Their steady form has seen them score just eight goals in 12 matches so far this season but being difficult to beat means they have drawn eight of those 12 games.

THE TEAM NEWS

UDINESE

Udinese have several injury concerns for the visit of Roma with the likes of Brenner, Festy Ebosele and Gerard Deulofeu unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-1-1): Silvestri; Ferreira, Bijol, Perez; Lovric, Samardzic, Walace, Payero, Zemura; Pereyra; Isaac

UNAVAILABLE: Ebosele (Injured), Ebosse (Injured), Brenner (Injured), Deulofeu (Injured), Ehizibue (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Both of these sides would fall into the category of being fairly reactive. They also really suffered with their form at the start of this season but have since majorly improved, albeit steadily with, as mentioned, a limited and pragmatic style of football and intent. So, whilst Roma remain slight favourites at Stadio Olimpico, an Udinese side that are extremely difficult to beat will cause a lot of irritation so a fairly frustrating watch for the neutral is to be expected in the Italian capital on Sunday afternoon.
