The third season of Jose Mourinho at a club tends to be when things begin to go quite badly wrong in quite a toxic manner. The summer of whinging from the Portuguese suggested that his stint at Stadio Olimpico would be no different to those campaigns and it has been a very underwhelming start to the season.
The Romans have managed to hammer 18th placed Empoli by seven goals to nil, as well as a 4-1 win over rock-bottom Cagliari. However, they are two of just three wins in their opening eight Serie A matches so far this season. The form of Romelu Lukaku has been a positive and they do come into this on the back of three successive wins in all competitions.
MONZA
The death of Silvio Berlusconi is something that is likely to have had a major impact on the club of Monza, given his involvement in helping the side reach the Italian top-flight for the first time ever in 2022. They remain ambitious and had a reasonably interesting transfer window but will be a little concerned at the idea of ‘second season syndrome’.
They come into this, though, on the back of some much-needed improved form which has them leap into the top-half of the table. Their most recent outing was a 3-0 hammering of strugglers Salernitana, a couple of weeks. That made it back-to-back victories and has extended their current unbeaten run of form to five matches.

Jose Mourinho’s side are looking to make it four wins in a row but they have been extremely underwhelming so far this season and do have a lot of injuries complicating matters, especially with a UEFA Europa League week coming up. Monza have started the season slowly but their defensive nous is helping them pick up points so they will go to the Stadio Olimpico aiming to keep it tight and frustrating for the hosts. Given that, a low-scoring encounter is to be expected.
