THE LOWDOWN

INTER MILAN

It was a historic evening for Internazionale on Monday night as they defeated AC Milan by two goals to one in the Derby della Madonnina to be crowned Italian champions for the first time since 2021. It was their 20th Italian title and they will now have a second star upon their badge after defeating their city rivals.

Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri were impressive throughout that clash at San Siro with Francesco Acerbi putting the champions into the lead early on. Marcus Thuram doubled their advantage early on in the second-half before Fikayo Tomori brought Milan back into the game. Several scuffles at the end of the game threatened to overshadow Inter’s celebrations.

TORINO

Torino remain a team aiming to play an easy on the eye and progressive style of football under the management of former Hellas Verona boss Ivan Juric. The Piedmont-based club are, though, one of the lowest scoring teams in Serie A with just 31 goals scored. Only Lecce, Empoli, Udinese and Salernitana have scored fewer than them this season.

They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table and only three points off the top eight and the European spots in Serie A. They come into this one on the back of two fairly common occurrences as they shared back-to-back goalless draws against Frosinone and Juventus before this weekend.

THE TEAM NEWS

INTER MILAN

As a result of one of the brawls the other day, Netherlands international full-back Denzel Dumfries was sent off and he is unavailable for this week through suspension.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Darmian, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro Martinez

UNAVAILABLE: Dumfries (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE:

TORINO

Both Koffi Djidji and Christian N’Guessan are injury doubts for this week, whilst both Gvidas Gineitis and Pietro Pellegri are unavailable through injury, too.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Tameze, Buongiorno, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Linetty, Ilic, Vojvoda; Vlasic; Zapata, Okereke

UNAVAILABLE: Pellegri (Injured), Gineitis (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Djidji (Injured), N’Guessan (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

As is often the case for successful teams at this end of the season, this weekend’s clash between Inter and Torino could be about how Inter handle their beer and celebrations from this week. They have little to play for but winning all five of their remaining matches would see them reach a hundred points. Torino will be confident of being defensively controlled enough to limit Inter and a low-scoring encounter is to be expected for this one at San Siro as Inter fight for motivation to win and Torino attempt to keep intact their impressive defensive abilities.

TIP: UNDER 3.5 GOALS
