THE LOWDOWN

HELLAS VERONA

Hellas Verona began the 2023/24 Serie A season with two wins out of two. They had only ever done that one other time and they won the Scudetto for the only time in their history. This time around, though, they endured a 14-match winless run of form and head into the run in firmly involved in the relegation battle.

The home team come into this one on the back of a continuation of their improvement in form in their most recent outing in Bergamo last week against Atalanta. They fought back from 2-0 down in that game to share a 2-2 draw and they have now suffered just three defeats in their last nine matches.

UDINESE

Andrea Sottil was relieved of his duties during the November international break with Udinese continuing to underperform for what must have been around 12 months. The Friulians replaced him with former Crawley Town boss Gabriele Cioffi as they hover just above the bottom three and the relegation places.

In 31 matches so far this season, Udinese have managed four victories with 16 draws and 11 defeats in the 2023/24 Serie A campaign. Their encounter with Roma was abandoned last week with Evan Ndicka suffering a suspected cardiac arrest. They have suffered just one defeat in their last eight matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

HELLAS VERONA

Hellas Verona could name an unchanged eleven for this weekend but they have an unavailable player with defender Juan Manuel Cruz still out injured.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Montipo; Centonze, Magnani, Dawidowicz, Cabal; Silva; Noslin, Folorunsho, Suslov, Lazovic; Bonazzoli

UNAVAILABLE: Cruz (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

UDINESE

Udinese have several availability concerns with the likes of Enzo Ebosse, Sando Lovric, Gerard Deulofeu and Florian Thauvin out injured.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-1-1): Okoye; Perez, Bijol, Kristensen; Ehizibue, Samardzic, Walace, Zarraga, Kamara; Pereyra; Davis

UNAVAILABLE: Thauvin (Injured), Lovric (Injured), Ebosse (Injured), Deulofeu (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Vivaldo (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

This match could be potentially defining in the Serie A relegation battle. Salernitana are all but gone but two spots remain and seven teams from 19th to 13th are separated by just six points with both Udinese and Verona level on 28 points, a point clear of the drop ahead of the weekend. These are two poor, evenly matched sides that have scored just 30 goals apiece so a cagey, even, low-scoring affair is to be expected for this one at the Bentegodi.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
