THE LOWDOWN

HELLAS VERONA

After beginning the season with back-to-back victories for the first and only other time since winning their only other Scudetto, Hellas Verona then went on a 14-match winless run of form but they have been generally improved since the turn of the year as they battle against the drop under the management of Marco Baroni.

The home team come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Lazio at Stadio Olimpico in their most recent outing, last weekend. Mattia Zaccagni scored a 72nd minute winner in that game for Lazio, coached by former Verona boss Igor Tudor. Verona have now managed just one win in their last six matches.

FIORENTINA

Fiorentina are in the middle of their UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final tie against Club Brugge. I Viola, who finished as runners’ up to West Ham United in that competition last season, needed a 91st minute goal from M’Bala Nzola to ensure they would take a slender lead to Belgium next week after coming out as 3-2 winners.

Still coached by Vincenzo Italiano, they have underperformed in Serie A as they sit firmly ensconced in the middle-of-the-table but very much in contention for a top eight finish and European qualification once again. They were recently hammered 4-1 by Atalanta, overturning their lead in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, too.

THE TEAM NEWS

HELLAS VERONA

Juan Manuel Cruz remains a doubt for Verona this weekend as they face Fiorentina, whilst Juan Cabal is missing through suspension.

QUESTIONABLE: Cruz (Injured)

FIORENTINA

Vincenzo Italiano is blessed with a fully fit and available squad for this weekend’s trip to the Bentegodi to face Hellas Verona.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Terracciano; Kayode, Martinez Quarta, Ranieri, Parisi; Lopez, Duncan; Ikone, Castrovilli, Sottil; Barak

THE PREDICTION

Hellas Verona begin this match day sitting two points and three places above the bottom three and the relegation places. Their aforementioned 1-0 loss to Lazio, though, was just their sixth defeat in 13 games in Serie A with five of those losses coming against teams aiming for European qualification. Fiorentina will likely rest and rotate for this weekend as they prepare to travel to Brugge so siding with the home team would appear like a decent value bet.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – HELLAS VERONA TO WIN OR DRAW
