BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH
Recent matches involving Borussia Monchengladbach have certainly been full of entertainment, which can certainly be the case for teams with little to play for coming up to the end of a season. After losing 5-2 away at Borussia Dortmund, the hosts contested a 2-2 draw last time out against Bayer Leverkusen, although perhaps a little frustratingly for them, they have won just one of their last six Bundesliga fixtures. Whilst Borussia Monchengladbach cannot drop lower than 11th-place, victory for them here combined with FC Cologne failing to win would see the former jump up into 10th-place.
What was even more impressive about Borussia Monchengladbach’s draw against Bayer Leverkusen was the fact that they came from 2-0 away from home to salvage a point, an excellent effort against Xabi Alonso’s side. After going two goals down within 20 minutes through Amine Adli and Kerem Demirbay, you feared that the away team were going to be on the end of a thumping. But Gladbach dug in and Jonas Hofmann pulled a goal back after 58 minutes. After keeping themselves in the game, Daniel Farke’s side were rewarded in the 90th minute as Lars Stindl equalised.

Augsburg go into the final day still not safe, but controlling their own destiny with two points between them and the bottom three. Automatic relegation is all but certain not to happen with three points separating them from 17th-placed Schalke 04, who have a vastly inferior goal difference. But a 16th-place finish and a relegation play-off could still be on the horizon for Augsburg if the result doesn’t go their way here. Worryingly though, they come into this one on the back of consecutive defeats, so it’s vitally important that this changes here.
It was a formidable fixture though that Augsburg had to contend with last weekend, facing a Borussia Dortmund side full of energy and motivation having been handed the initiative in the Bundesliga title race following RB Leipzig’s win over Bayern Munich. Augsburg’s task got even harder in the 38th minute after Felix Uduokhai received a straight red card, reducing them to ten men. Whilst they managed to hang on until half-time, the hosts finally come unstuck in the second half, Sebastien Haller making the breakthrough for BVB just before the hour mark. From then on, the floodgates opened and Dortmund added two more goals, Haller doubling his tally and Julian Brandt netting a third.

When taking into account Augsburg’s poor goal difference, a point may not be enough for them to stay out of the bottom three, adding extra pressure on them to win this one and guarantee their safety without relying on other results. With that in mind, you’d expect an attacking style of play from them and against a side with no pressure on their shoulders, an open game may well be on the cards and Borussia Monchengladbach push bodes forward themselves at home. Chances are likely to be accrued at either end of the pitch and backing both teams to score has to be favoured.
