THE LOWDOWN

TOULOUSE

Toulouse come into this one on the back of a goalless draw at home to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in their most recent outing, during the week, in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League. The hosts have badly struggled in Ligue 1, too, with the club sitting down at the bottom end of the table with just two victories in their 13 matches so far this season.

They begin the match day sitting just a point above their upcoming opponents, Lorient, down in Ligue 1’s relegation battle. They have managed just one win in their last nine matches across all competitions with that victory, remarkably, coming in a surprise 3-2 defeat of Liverpool in November.

LORIENT

Under the management of Regis Le Bris, Lorient are under pressure down at the wrong end of the Ligue 1 table. After 13 matches of the 2023/24 season, Lorient begin this weekend sitting in the bottom three and in the relegation playoff place with just two victories so far this season, albeit they have remained entertaining throughout the campaign.

Those 13 games have consisted of 41 goals with 17 scored and 24 conceded. Only four teams have scored more often than Lorient, whilst 24 is the most any team has conceded. They come into this on the back of a 3-2 defeat at home to Metz, meaning they have managed to collect just one point in their last four matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

TOULOUSE

Toulouse have no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues with Zakaria Aboukhlal among those that remain unavailable for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Restes; Desler, Costa, Nicolaisen, Suazo; Casseres Jr, Spierings; Kamanzi, Sierro, Donnum; Magri

UNAVAILABLE: Aboukhlal (Injured), Zanden (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

LORIENT

Lorient also have no fresh injury concerns so the visitors would be able to name an unchanged eleven for this weekend’s encounter.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Mvogo; Mendy, Laporte, Talbi, Yongwa; Faivre, Abergel, Bakayoko, Makengo; Doucoure, Kroupi

UNAVAILABLE: Silva (Injured), Kari (Injured), Tosin (Injured), Mouyokolo (Injured), Sylla (Injured), Boisgard (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

These are two teams that will feel this one is a bit of a ‘six-pointer’ as they languish down the table. Toulouse have badly struggled, bar that bizarre and anomalous victory over Liverpool, and they are expected to remain down at the bottom for as long as they are involved in European competition with such a small squad. Lorient will fancy their chances of taking advantage of a below par and inconsistent Toulouse side and a high-scoring affair between the two strugglers is to be expected for this one.
