THE LOWDOWN

MONTPELLIER

Montpellier Herault begin the 15th match day of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign sitting in the bottom-half of the table, just above the bottom three and the relegation playoff places. The home team sit just a point above Lorient, who currently occupy the end of season Ligue 1/Ligue 2 relegation/promotion playoff place.

The hosts come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat away to Monaco in their most recent outing, last weekend, as they sit in the top three. They are now winless in their last five matches in Ligue 1 and they have struggled in attack with two goals scored in their last four matches and they have failed to score in six of their last ten games.

LENS

Under the management of Franck Haise, Lens have recovered from a slow start to the campaign to propel themselves back towards the top five and European spots. The northerners continued their fine form domestically with an entertaining 3-2 defeat of bottom-of-the-table Olympique Lyonnais last weekend, coming from 1-0 down early on.

Lens have now enjoyed three successive Ligue 1 victories and are unbeaten in their last nine matches in the league, keeping six clean sheets in that time. In fact, their 6-0 hammering at the hands of Arsenal last week was their only defeat in their last 13 matches across all competitions since the middle of September.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Samba; Gradit, Danso, Medina; Aguilar, El Aynaoui, Abdul Samed, Machado; Costa, Thomasson; Said

THE PREDICTION

Coached by Armenian, Michel Der Zakarian, Montpellier Herault are in serious danger of falling down into Ligue 2. The 2011 Ligue 1 winners have managed just three victories in their 14 matches so far this season and they now face a Lens side that are now in excellent form as they try and replicate finishing as runners’ up last year. A fairly comfortable away win is to be expected for this one with this being a fairly uneven contest based on their results.

BETTING TIP: LENS TO WIN
