THE LOWDOWN
LORIENT
Under the management of Regis Le Bris, off-field fan protests have blighted Lorient’s performances and results this season with general unhappiness about being a part of the same ownership group as Premier League side AFC Bournemouth and effectively being a feeder club to the Cherries but they come into this one on the back of a continuation of some much-improved form.
Lorient’s most recent outing saw them pull off a shock 2-1 defeat of Stade Rennais away from home with goals from Mohamed Bamba, his sixth since joining in January, and Eli Junior Kroupi. That means they have now managed four victories in their last five matches as they propel themselves away from the bottom part of the table.
LYON
Pierre Sage, who is Olympique Lyonnais’ first manager of the campaign after the sackings of both Laurent Blanc and then Fabio Grosso, does have his Lyon side pushing on towards the middle-of-the-table after a first-half of the campaign in which it appeared inevitable that the seven-time French champions would be battling against the drop until late on this season.
However, they enjoyed a run of 11 victories with just two defeats in 13 matches across all competitions before they were humbled by Lens at Parc OL, last weekend. Lyon suffered a 3-0 defeat to the northerners with goals being scored by Florian Sotoca, Elye Wahi and Kevin Danso. Ainsley Maitland-Niles was also sent off in that match.

THE PREDICTION
We have a bit of a weird clash between these two sides this weekend. Lorient have been underperforming for the majority of the campaign but have lifted themselves away from danger and so have Olympique Lyonnais but both will remain unconvincing until they are absolutely safe. They have both been a lot more proactive and better to watch during their general improvement so backing both teams to score would appear a good bet.
TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
