THE LOWDOWN

WEST HAM

West Ham United come into this one on the back of a week in which rumours that David Moyes will depart the club at the end of this season have rapidly grown as Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim links strengthen. The Hammers have endured a really difficult calendar year of 2024 as they drift away from the European spots.

The Irons were hammered 5-2 by capital city rivals Crystal Palace last weekend at Selhurst Park after going 4-0 down in the opening half an hour of the match. They were also knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Bayer Leverkusen last week and have now managed just four victories in 21 matches across all competitions this year.

LIVERPOOL

Much like West Ham, Liverpool do appear to be in the midst of their own season fizzling out. The Reds are into the final month of Jurgen Klopp’s reign and have endured a difficult last month and a half or so in which they exited both the FA Cup and UEFA Europa League at the quarter-final stage before another fairly grim midweek outing.

In Klopp’s final Merseyside derby, Liverpool were beaten 2-0 by Everton at Goodison Park with goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in either half. That means they begin this weekend sitting three points behind Arsenal at the top-of-the-table but Manchester City’s game-in-hand means a title charge is also now unlikely.

THE TEAM NEWS

WEST HAM

According to West Ham boss David Moyes, England international Jarrod Bowen has resumed training and has a 'good chance' of being available this weekend.

George Earthy is also expected to be available after his concussion but the Hammers will be without defender Nayef Ageurd with Konstantinos Mavropanos also a doubt for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Coufal, Zouma, Ogbonna, Emerson; Soucek, Edson Alvarez; Kudus, Ward-Prowse, Lucas Paqueta; Antonio

UNAVAILABLE: Mavropanos (Injured), Ageurd (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Bowen (Injured)

LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp will remain without two new-ish injury concerns for this weekend's trip down to the capital city. Both Conor Bradley and Diogo Jota are expected to remain unavailable.

Cody Gakpo is back in contention after missing the midweek game against Everton due to the birth of his child. They are also still without the likes of Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Endo, Szoboszlai; Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luiz Diaz

UNAVAILABLE: Matip (Injured), Bradley (Injured), Thiago (Injured), Diogo Jota (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

At the start of this weekend’s match day, West Ham are sitting just two points below Newcastle United in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying spot but their form has been extremely underwhelming for almost four months now. Liverpool have managed just one win in their last four matches in the Premier League. However, if it wasn’t Klopp’s final season in charge, there is an argument to suggest they have over achieved this season but it is fading quite badly. Despite that, they are up against a team fading even more significantly so an away win is to be expected.

TIP: LIVERPOOL TO WIN
