MAN CITY PREVIEW: ADDITIONAL HEADING HERE
Last season’s treble winners will have to settle for potential double winners this time around. Their dramatic 2-0 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a bizarre atmosphere in midweek means they head into the final day of the campaign sitting two points clear at the top-of-the-table before the FA Cup final against Manchester United next weekend.
The Cityzens and their supporters will remember the times they have won the title on the final day of the season in dramatic circumstances with late, late turnarounds against Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa. A more realistic precedent for this week, though, was their final day triumph in 2014 when they eased past Sam Allardyce’s West Ham United by two goals to nil.
WEST HAM PREVIEW: ADDITIONAL HEADING HERE
In what was his final game in charge of West Ham United at the London Stadium, David Moyes’ Irons comfortably came from behind to defeat Championship-bound Luton Town in the capital city last weekend. Albert Sambi Lokonga opened the scoring in the 6th minute for the Hatters before James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek and George Earthy turned the game on its head.
West Ham have endured a really difficult second-half of the season as they slide away from the European spots. In fact, that defeat of Luton last weekend was just their fourth victory in 23 matches across all competitions since the turn of the year. They went into 2024 sitting sixth in the table on the back of back-to-back 2-0 victories against Manchester United and Arsenal.
MAN CITY TEAM NEWS: EDERSON SUFFERS FRACTURED EYE SOCKET
Manchester City confirmed that their first choice goalkeeper Ederson will miss the final two games of City's season after he fractured his eye socket in that 2-0 win at Spurs in midweek.
Pep Guardiola has also confirmed that Belgian international midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will be assessed late on before the game after his early substitution in the same game.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Stefan Ortega; Walker, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Rodri, Kovacic; Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne, Foden; Haaland
UNAVAILABLE: Ederson (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: De Bruyne (Injured)
WEST HAM TEAM NEWS: ADDITIONAL HEADING HERE
West Ham United will be without their on-loan midfielder Kalvin Phillips for this weekend due to ineligibility rules against his parent club but he is injured and has been on the fringes anyway.
The Hammers have been without defensive duo Nayef Ageurd and Konstantinos Mavropanos in recent weeks but there is no news on their upcoming availability.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Areola; Coufal, Zouma, Ogbonna, Emerson; Soucek, Ward-Prowse; Bowen, Kudus, Lucas Paqueta; Antonio
UNAVAILABLE: Phillips (Ineligible)
QUESTIONABLE: Ageurd (Injured), Mavropanos (Injured)
MAN CITY VS WEST HAM PREDICTION
Not only did City need to come from behind in those aforementioned games against QPR and Aston Villa but they also did so on the south coast against Brighton and Hove Albion in 2019 to win the league. David Moyes said his Hammers side would find it difficult to defeat City’s U14 team so the Scotsman, in his final game in charge, doesn’t appear overly confident or seemingly bothered. A comfortable City win to clinch a sixth title in seven seasons seems very likely.
