THE LOWDOWN

EVERTON

  • Everton fans have been forced to face up to the realisation that they are once again in big relegation trouble, after being demolished by Brighton at Goodison Park, losing 1-4 and dropping into the bottom three.
  • The Toffees were dealt a further blow in the FA Cup third round as not only were they knocked out by Man Utd, but midfielder Alex Iwobi suffered an ankle ligament injury which will keep him out of action for a period of time.

SOUTHAMPTON

  • Southampton remain rooted to the bottom of the league and are in huge danger of being cut adrift following their latest league defeat, an awful 0-1 loss at the hands of Nottingham Forest.
  • Carlos Alcarez could be set to make his debut for Southampton, most likely from the bench should he be passed fit and the relevant paperwork have been completed that allows him to feature following his signing from Racing Club.

THE PREDICTION

This really does feel like the last-chance saloon for Frank Lampard at Everton. Results have been disastrous recently and with Everton now in the bottom three, anything less than three points against bottom-of-the-table Southampton, may well see him given his marching orders. Although the Saints pulled off a famous League Cup win over Man City in midweek and looked excellent in doing so, the effort put into this match could well take its toll on them physically the longer this contest goes on. The grind of the Premier League is unforgiving and Goodison Park is expected to be a bearpit with their Everton side fighting for their lives. Ultimately, that extra energy that the Toffees players should possess come the latter stages may just make all the difference as Southampton likely tire, so consider backing the hosts to win via the draw no bet market for extra security.

TIP: EVERTON DRAW NO BET
