THE LOWDOWN
ASTON VILLA
- It has not been the start to the season that Steven Gerrard would have wanted but their 1-1 draw with champions Man City in their last outing was a marked improvement on previous performances and Gerrard will hope his side can kick on from that now.
- Ollie Watkins is a slight doubt with illness but Gerrard is hopeful of the striker's involvement, while recent signing Leander Dendoncker could make his debut after recovering from his own illness.
SOUTHAMPTON
- Southampton are in a more comfortable position in the table compared to their hosts with Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side sitting in 12th place ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, and a positive result here will send them into the top half of the table, at least temporarily.
- It’s as you were in terms of team news for the Saints with only Tino Livramento and Romeu Lavia occupying the treatment room at the moment.

THE PREDICTION
The pressure was mounting on Steven Gerrard’s shoulders prior to their 1-1 draw with Man City last time out, and while that result certainly helped matters, he could really do with adding to the one victory his side have managed so far in the Premier League season. The enforced break in play will have allowed him to work on some issues on the training pitch however, and we’re backing the hosts to come out firing here and record a much-needed three points against the Saints.
TIP: ASTON VILLA TO WIN
