THE LOWDOWN

ASTON VILLA

  • Aston Villa boss Unai Emery was indebted to Danny Ings, who came off the bench and changed the course of their encounter against Wolves, equalising and almost setting up a late winner, had Leon Bailey not fluffed his lines in front of goal.
  • Polish international Matty Cash is doubtful for the hosts, whilst Leander Dendoncker is suspended following a red card in Villa’s shock FA Cup defeat at the hands of L2 side Stevenage.

LEEDS UTD

  • An enthralling, but frustrating 2-2 draw at home to West Ham left Leeds Utd still outside the bottom three, but only by two points heading into this latest round of Premier League fixtures.
  • Patrick Bamford will return to the Leeds squad for the trip to Villa Park and could feature from the bench, although winger Luis Sinisterra remains out injured.

THE PREDICTION

Aston Villa need to respond strongly to appease their supporters after being knocked out of the FA Cup in humiliating fashion last weekend, losing at home to a club in the fourth tier of English football. All their big guns will be back and in from the start here and an attacking style of play is expected to be deployed by Emery against Leeds Utd. However, whilst the visitors are not the strongest defensively, leaking at least two goals in each of their last four games in all competitions, they do pose a significant threat going forward, with the Whites’ pace in particular a huge asset on the counter-attack. It would therefore be no surprise to see clear-cut chances fashioned at both ends of the pitch and backing both teams to score appears a sensible move.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
