THE LOWDOWN

OH LEUVEN

A lack of investment due to financial issues leading to stagnation coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic eventually did for Leicester City in the Premier League and Oud-Heverlee Leuven will be concerned of something similar happening, as they are owned by the same ownership group of King Power.

Marc Brys, who had been in charge since 2020, has been relieved of his duties at Den Dreef. They currently sit in the bottom four and the end of season relegation round playoff places. They have won just two of their opening ten matches and they come into this on the back of back-to-back victories against the likes of Cercle Brugge and Standard Liege.

SINT-TRUIDEN

Sint-Truiden are one of a number of sides in Belgium’s top-flight who would see themselves as a generally and fundamentally ‘mid-table’ but the reduction in the league from 18 to 16 teams has increased the likelihood of those teams being dragged into a relegation dogfight. Despite that, STVV have remained firmly ‘mid-table’ so far this season.

In their opening ten matches of the campaign, Sint-Truiden have managed three victories with four draws and three defeats. They come into this one on the back of a 4-0 hammering at the hands of league leaders Royale Saint-Gilloise in their most recent outing, prior to the October international break.

THE TEAM NEWS

OH LEUVEN

The departure of Marc Brys means that OH Leuven may make some changed for this one as they are without Richie Sagrado, due to injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Prevot; Schingtienne, Pletinckx, Shlomo; Vlietinck, Schrijvers, Misao, Mendyl; Maziz, Porsteinsson; Nsingi

UNAVAILABLE: Sagrado (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Mueanta (Injured), Ricca (Injured), Maertens (Injured), Opoku (Injured), Calut (Injured)

SINT-TRUIDEN

Sint-Truiden remain without just Shinji Okazaki for this one but it does mean they are likely to name an unchanged eleven for this weekend’s encounter.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Suzuki; Van Helden, Smets, Godeau; Hashioka, Ito, Delorge-Knieper, Bocat; Steuckers, Kaya, Koita

UNAVAILABLE: Okazaki (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These two sides had very different moods coming into this season, knowing that they could well potentially drop down towards the bottom end of the table if they don’t continue to improve their squad over the summer. OH Leuven have struggled a lot more than STVV so far this season but STVV’s current poor run of form makes this a little intriguing with potential new manager bounce in Leuven. What is likely is a low-scoring encounter between two generally poor sides.
