THE LOWDOWN

KORTRIJK

Owned by Cardiff City owner and chairman, Vincent Tan, Kortrijk benefitted from some loan deals from Cardiff towards the end of the summer transfer window with the likes of Isaak Davies and Sheyi Ojo arriving in Belgium. However, they were always expected to struggle against the drop this season and that is proving to be the case.

Under the management of Edward Still, the brother of Reims boss Will, Kortrijk have suffered a very tough start to the campaign in which they have managed just one win in ten matches. Their defeat to Westerlo a couple of weeks ago leaves them sitting rock-bottom and forced Tan to replace Edward Still with Glen De Boeck over the international break.

CLUB BRUGGE

Despite winning the title in 2022, Club Brugge endured a very difficult defence, requiring four different managers as they only just stumbled into the top four and the end of season championship round on the final day of the regular season. However, the appointment of former NYCFC and Celtic boss Ronny Deila has led to a major improvement in terms of performances and results.

Club Brugge had started the season with four victories and a draw in their opening six Jupiler Pro League matches but do come into this on the back of some stagnated form. They were beaten 2-1 by rivals, and Deila’s former club, Standard Liege, though, a couple of weeks ago, making it four games without a win in the league since their UEFA Europa Conference League group stage began.

THE TEAM NEWS

KORTRIJK

Kortrijk are without former Manchester City forward Thierry Ambrose due to injury, whilst on-loan attacker Alex Mighten also remains a doubt.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Vandeberghe; Mampassi, Silva, Kana; El Idrissy, Sissako, Malinov, De Neve; Bruno, Avenatti, Kadri

UNAVAILABLE: Ambrose (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Mighten (Injured), Depoitre (Injured)

CLUB BRUGGE

Ronny Deila is blessed with no new or fresh injury or suspension concerns so he will likely be able to name an unchanged eleven for this weekend’s encounter.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Mignolet; Odoi, Mechele, Spileers, De Cuyper; Onyedika, Vetlesen; Skov Olsen, Vanaken, Zinckernagel; Jutgla

UNAVAILABLE: Sabbe (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Vermant (Injured), Talbi (Injured), Bursik (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Despite the departure of Edward Still and appointment of Glen De Boeck, Kortrijk remain a weak team in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League and they have had a miserable start to the season; as had been expected. They now face a Club Brugge side that have made a habit of absolutely dispatching the weakest teams in Belgium’s top-flight and after a break they should be refreshed so quite a comfortable away win is the expected outcome for this one.

TIP: CLUB BRUGGE TO WIN
