THE LOWDOWN
CERCLE BRUGGE
After an impressive season last year, in which Cercle Brugge managed to sneak into the top eight and the end of season UEFA Europa Conference League playoff places on the final day of the regular season, Cercle are seeking to build towards the top six this season, under the continued management of Miron Muslic.
They come into this on the back of an entertaining 3-2 win at home to Oud-Heverlee Leuven in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago, prior to the October international break. They have won five and lost five of their opening ten matches as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting inside the top six and the European playoff places.
GENT
Under the management of Hein Vanhaezebrouck, Gent cruelly missed out on the end of season championship round in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League last season on the final day of the regular season. They, though, have managed to keep hold of key attackers such as Hugo Cuypers and Gift Orban this season so will be hopeful of going one step further.
In their opening ten matches of the 2023/24 campaign, Gent have remained unbeaten with five victories and five draws so far. They have, though, been frustrated by four draws in their last five matches, including a 1-1 draw with Genk a couple of weeks ago, before the October international break.
THE TEAM NEWS
CERCLE BRUGGE
Miron Muslic has no fresh or new injury or suspension concerns to contend with for Cercle Brugge with just Abu Francis missing due to injury this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Warleson; Siquet, Popovic, Utkus, Ravych; Lopes, Van der Bruggen; Somers, Minda, Gboho; Denkey
UNAVAILABLE: Francis (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
GENT
Gent are potentially going to be without their aforementioned key attacker, Hugo Cuypers, as he recovers from an injury he suffered a couple of weeks ago.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Nardi; Kandouss, Watanabe, Torunarigha; Samoise, De Sart, Kums, Brown; Hjulsager, Fofana; Tissoudali
UNAVAILABLE:
QUESTIONABLE: Cuypers (Injured), Fortuna (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
This is a match between two of the stronger sides in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. Both teams have started with five victories so far but the five draws for Gent and five defeats for Cercle is a bit of a major change. Given that Gent have been able to withstand a loss so far this season and that run will surely come to an end, combined with Cercle coming into this with home advantage and a victory in their most recent outing, a value bet may well be to back Cercle ahead of this one.
TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – CERCLE BRUGGE TO WIN OR DRAW
