FPL 2023-24 | Gameweek 14 | Captain Picks

It was a Gameweek 13 that goes down as a big disappointment when it came to our captain picks for that round of fixtures. Liverpool’s Mo Salah (£13.0m) did manage an assist and 5 FPL points against Man City, but that was it in terms of attacking returns from our selections. Heung-Min Son (£9.6m) blanked at home to Aston Villa and Jarrod Bowen (£7.6m) failed to be passed fit for West Ham’s clash with Burnley. Differential pick Dominic Solanke (£6.5m) also blanked, although Bournemouth were 1-3 winners away at Sheffield Utd.

Following the latest round of European club fixtures, we now turn attention to potential fantasy skippers for Gameweek 14, assessing three more premium captain picks including a differential pick ahead of Saturday’s 13:30 deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Mo Salah (£13.0m) vs FUL (H)

Expect Liverpool assets to prove popular in Gameweek 14 with a home fixture against Fulham for the Reds and Mo Salah especially will court huge captaincy interest. The Egyptian remains the highest scoring fantasy asset in all positions so far this season and boasts ten goals, five assists and 106 FPL points to his name. Across Liverpool’s six home league fixtures already played, Salah’s lowest fantasy score has been 5 points, the attacker recording 63 points in total. Such numbers make him a hugely enticing captain pick.

Erling Haaland (£14.0m) vs TOT (H)

Man City’s Champions League victory over Spurs in midweek saw Haaland continue his goalscoring form, netting for the fourth time across City’s last three matches in all competitions. Aside from Salah, Haaland is the only other FPL asset to boast a triple-figure points-score after 13 gameweeks. A total of 14 Premier League goals, three assists and 103 points gained overall underlines his Gameweek 14 captaincy appeal as Pep Guardiola’s side face Spurs at the Etihad Stadium. The visitors have lost their last three league matches, conceding at least two goals on both occasions.

Bukayo Saka (£8.8m) vs WOL (H)

It’s easy to be impressed by this Arsenal side following their 6-0 demolition of Lens in the Champions League midweek. That encounter saw Saka accumulate a goal and an assist for a third consecutive home match in the competition and his large ownership will be hoping he can take that form into the Premier League and a Gameweek 14 fixture vs Wolves. Over half of FPL managers now own Saka, so the best way to capitalise on owning the England international is to captain him. You would be placing the armband on a player who has racked up four goals, seven assists and 79 fantasy points in the top flight over the course of the campaign so far.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Dominik Szoboszlai (£7.1m) vs FUL (H)

As is the case when it comes to our premium captain picks, we also have a Liverpool representative in mind when it comes to selecting a Gameweek 14 differential, specifically midfielder Szoboszlai who has shown himself as capable of big attacking returns already this season from an FPL point of view. Twice, the Hungarian international has recorded double-figure point-scores and both of those came in home fixtures. He is more than capable of another large haul this weekend and any fantasy manager searching for a differential captain should take note.
