Fabrizio Escarrega: A powerful striker looking for his biggest KO win to date
Were it not for suffering an arm injury in his seventh professional fight, Fabrizio Escarrega (9-1) would be making his Contender Series debut as another undefeated prospect. A knockout artist with seven KOs to his name, Escarrega has only been to the scorecards on one occasion, with all of his finishes coming before the third round. He’s also appeared on Karate Combat, earning a unanimous decision victory over Nikita Yanchuk back in 2024. There isn’t much tape on the Mexican, but he clearly hits extremely hard. He also seems to like angling off from the clinch, looking to land his right hand as his opponent exits.

Perfect as an amateur and a professional to date, former Lights Out lightweight champion, Abe Alsaghir (8-0) makes his Contender Series debut looking to maintain his undefeated record. The 25 year old American has seven finishes to his name split virtually even between KOs and submissions, a run that includes a RNC victory over former UFC fighter, Drew Fickett. However, while “The Killer” has looked pretty unstoppable in his career to date, that comes with the caveat that he’s largely fought sub-par levels of competition throughout his career; almost 50% of Alsaghir’s wins have come over fighters with losing records.

This is arguably the closest fight on the card.
Both fighters’ strength of schedule leaves a lot to be desired, with multiple wins over opponents with losing records. Yes, Alsaghir does have a win over a former UFC fighter, but it’s hard to put too much stock in a victory over a 45 year old Drew Fickett.
Escarrega has a big height advantage here, a dangerous proposition considering the threat that he poses on the feet. Alsaghir isn’t the biggest lightweight in the world at 5’9” and the fact that he weighed in nearly 2 pounds below the weight limit in his last fight indicates that he could well be undersized for the division. As such, it’s not inconceivable that Escarrega leans on his physicality advantage and pours it on for an early stoppage.
However, it could be a different story if these two end up on the mat. With a number of submission victories to his name, Alsaghir looks to be the more credentialed grappler of the pair. Considering he’s also got a number of KOs on his resume, he would seem to be the more well-rounded fighter in this match up. As such, in a match up between two completely unproven talents, he would appear to be the slighter safer commodity.
Escarrega could land a bomb early, but the pick is Alsaghir to weather an early storm and either win a decision or find a finish on the ground.
