THE LOWDOWN

ENGLAND WOMEN

  • Despite having already qualified for the semi-finals, England sent a message to their rivals in their final group game, setting a Women’s T20 World Cup record score batting first against Pakistan, piling up 213/5.
  • Katherine Sciver-Brunt has come under some criticism for her performance across the competition as of late, but the experienced pace showed her class here, bouncing back with two wickets as England completed a resounding 114-run-win.

SOUTH AFRICA WOMEN

  • South Africa held their nerve to overcome winless Bangladesh in their final group stage, which was enough for them to sneak into the semi-finals, a distant prospect following their opening match of the tournament.
  • It was a huge boost for the Proteas to see Laura Wolvaardt guide her side home against Bangladesh, scoring 66 not out in a ten-wicket victory and another big innings here could prove worth its weight in gold.

THE PREDICTION

It was only last summer that England absolutely dominated South Africa on home territory in all departments and whilst they enter this semi-final as heavy favourites, this time it’s the Proteas who boast home advantage. However, whilst they do contain potential gamechangers such as Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail, the bowling depth isn’t the strongest and could be seized upon by an England batting line-up riding the crest of a wave and notorious for their brute force. Katherine Sciver-Brunt’s return to form with the ball is also vital from England’s perspective and as it stands, they just look a significantly superior all-round side compared to South Africa. With that in mind, back England to go one step further compared to 2020 and reach the Women’s T20 World Cup final.
