THE TEAM NEWS

LANCASHIRE THUNDER

  • Lancashire Thunder lost their eighth game of this year’s Women’s Super League as they went down to a heavy defeat against Loughborough Lightning and now have one final chance to end their run without a win.
  • Thunder struggled with the bat and had it not been for a decent effort from the tail, they would have been skittled for under 100 but the 122 they did manage was nowhere near enough in the eight-wicket defeat as Loughborough reached their target with 23 balls left.
  • South African Sune Luus has been a huge disappointment in the competition and even a big performance here will not hide how she has underperformed with her failing to take a single wicket whilst she has only managed one half-century with the bat.

SURREY STARS

  • Surrey Stars suffered a sixth successive loss as they were hammered by the team who are favourites to claim the Stars’ Women’s Super League crown with Western Storm running out 77-run winners.
  • It has been a sorry defence of their title by the Stars and this loss summed up their run of form as they were skittled for just 94 in pursuit of the Storm’s 171/4, the second time Surrey have allowed over 170 runs against them in this year’s competition.
  • Skipper Natalie Sciver and Sarah Taylor have been the shining lights in a poor campaign for the Stars whilst Dane van Niekerk has done a good job with the ball but they have been let down by the majority of their teammates.

THE PREDICTION

Neither Lancashire Thunder nor Surrey Stars would have envisaged how the Women’s Super League would have panned out for them this year. Lancashire have failed to win a single game whilst Surrey have been poor in defence of their title despite a strong start having lost their last six games. Thunder will be desperate to end on a high and claim their first win of the tournament but the Stars’ big guns can lead their side to a first win in seven.
