THE TEAM NEWS

SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lanka were too good for Namibia in their opening match of the T20 World Cup and the manner of their win will have been extremely pleasing having brushed aside any doubts over the game being a potential banana skin.
  • The Sri Lankans dominated with both bat and ball, bowing Namibia for under 100 runs before reaching their target with 39 balls to spare in the one-sided affair and they will look to back that effort up in this clash with Ireland.

IRELAND

  • Ireland produced a brilliant display to overcome the Netherlands in their first game of the tournament and they have put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the next stage thanks to that success.
  • It was Ireland’s young guns that did the damage as Curtis Campher took four wickets before Garth Delany got the job done with the bat, scoring 44 from 29 balls with that knock guiding his side to a seven-wicket victory.

THE PREDICTION

Sri Lanka and Ireland both impressed on their way to victory in the opening round of matches at the T20 World Cup but something has to give as the pair go head-to-head here. Sri Lanka will start as favourites but will have to guard against complacency against a potentially dangerous Irish side. Ireland were very good in their win over the Netherlands with some of the younger members of their squad standing out and they are likely to hold no fear here. Garth Delany has produced two eye-catching batting performances in a row and he can be Ireland’s top-scorer with the bat in what should be an entertaining affair.
