STEFANOS TSITSIPAS
- Rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas dropped the first set of his second-round match to Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien but rallied to win the next to-love and the match in four sets (4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 7-5).
- The Greek youngster has already surpassed his best showing at Roland-Garros after reaching the third round but he will need to go some way in this tournament to surpass his semi-finals defeat to Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open this year.
- Jan-Lennard Struff (51), Felix Auger-Aliassime (58) and Damir Dzumhur (56), who incidentally is his next opponent Filip Krakinovic’s doubles partner, are the only players to have beaten Tsitsipas from outside the top 50 this year.
FILIP KRAJINOVIC
- World number 60 Filip Krajinovic has battled through two five-set matches against the USA’s starlet Frances Tiafoe and Spaniard Rodrigo Carballes Baena to set up a third-round tie with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
- Two five-set matches in the space of three days may go some way to explaining why the Serb and his doubles partner Damir Dzumhur retired form their second-round match on Thursday.
- Krajinovic has reached the finals of the last three tournaments he’s entered, winning the NECKARCUP Challenger Title last time out after coming runner-up in the Mouratoglou Open in France and the Hungarian Open.
THE PREDICTION
Stefanos Tsitsipas looks to be going from strength to strength this season and should not fear his third-round opponent Filip Krajinovic, who has spent a tournament’s amount of time on the court already after just four days. The Serb will have the rest afforded him by retiring from his doubles, but Tsitsipas was knocked early on by Hugo Dellien which may well be the wake-up call he needs to become more ruthless.
