- Wawrinka made light work of Cristian Garin in the second round, comprehensively winning 6-1, 6-4, 6-0, and his confidence is improving after losing three straight matches prior to the French Open.
- The 2015 Roland-Garros champion will be seeking to reach the fourth round in Paris for the eighth time in his career, and despite his slip down the rankings he remains a dangerous opponent on his day.

GRIGOR DIMITROV
- Grigor Dimitrov had to once again come through a gruelling five-set match, this time outlasting 11th seed Marin Cilic 6-7, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 in an epic second-round encounter.
- Having also gone the distance against Janko Tipsarevic in the first round, fatigue could become a factor for Dimitrov should this match follow a similar pattern.
- This will be the fourth meeting between the two on clay, with Dimitrov winning two of their previous three meetings on the surface, so that particular statistic will give him some confidence of progressing.
THE PREDICTION
This heavyweight third-round clash promises to be a close affair going by previous meetings as the pair have split the eight matches they have contested. Having previously faced off at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open, this duel means they will have met at every Grand Slam. Wawrinka was the victor at the other three majors, and given that he's likely to be the fresher of the two, the elder statesman is favoured to triumph once more.
