- Gael Monfils, 14th seed at Roland-Garros this year, made short work in dispatching Taro Daniel in the first round to set up a second round tie with Adrian Mannarino.
- French favourite Monfils is 32 years old and rarely in contention for Grand Slam titles but he is a great source of entertainment and usually has the crowd’s backing wherever he plays.

An all-French tie at Roland-Garros sees world number 48 Adrian Mannarino face Gael Monfils for the third time, in which he has won twice. All three of their encounters have been played on grass, which is a rare streak indeed, but Mannarino’s clay-court form has left much to be desired so far in 2019. Monfils plays without pressure in these earlier Grand Slam rounds and plays up to the crowd supporting him, so this match looks to be his for the taking.
