FIFA 19 eSports – News Round-Up

In our weekly round-up here at The Stats Zone, we look at the biggest talking points currently within the FIFA eSports scene. These may range from player transfers, online/offline tournament announcements, tournament results and more.

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Last Friday saw the finals of the inaugural eChampions League take place in Madrid. The remaining eight finalists battled it out in a single elimination bracket on the PS4 in a bid to be crowned the eChampions League winner. After a day of tense competition that included drama, controversy and a penalty shootout, it was NYC_Chris who came out on top for New York City FC. The American secured his first ever major FIFA 19 title after overcoming Rafsou and Marcuzo on his way to the Grand Final, where he defeated Bulgarian Dr NightWatch to secure his place in FIFA eSports history.

TOURNAMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Following the conclusion of the eChampions League, the FIFA 19 Global Series regular season is at an end. The top 60 players from both the PS4 and Xbox One rankings leaderboard will advance to the Global Series Playoffs alongside the FIFA Online 4 qualifiers to compete for a place at the FIFA eWorld Cup. The amount of Global Series Points on offer at the playoffs exceeds any previous tournament so any player who competes has the chance to qualify for the FIFA eWorld Cup. The Global Series Playoffs will take place in July; the PS4 bracket is set to place on the weekend of July 10-12 in Berlin while we are awaiting official confirmation of the Xbox One scheduling.
